14-bit 1+GSa/s Digital to Analog Converter (DAC)

The Fujitsu MB86065 is a 14-bit 1+GSa/s digital to analog converter (DAC), delivering exceptional dynamic performance and backwards compatibility with 'DAC A' of the MB86064. The electrochemical etch-stop is one of the most cost-effective, convenient and precise technique for fabricating thin, mono-crystalline silicon membranes. It is based on the different etching potentials of n- and p-type doped silicon layers in alkaline etching solutions, such as potassium hydroxide (KOH).

Two key components are needed for successful implementation of this technique:
» a reliable wafer holder that protects the n-type backside of the wafer from the etchant and that provides an electrical contact to the wafer
» a potentiostat that keeps the p/n-junction in reverse bias and monitors the current over time

How it Works

Laser Micro Milling is simple in concept. Each laser pulse ablates a very small amount of material. The laser is scanned across the surface to produce the desired feature. The number of pulses at each position determines the depth of the feature. In practice the quality of the result is strongly dependent on the choice of laser and the scanning strategy adopted. In many cases the morphology of the starting material is also important with fine grained or amorphous materials producing the best results.

Large board thick film resistor trimming is a specialty of Laserod. Board sizes to 24" x 24" or 36" x 24" are easily handled. Upon job completion, Laserod will provide you with Excel® graphs that indicate your initial and final trim values for your comparison.

The precision equipment delivers a trim accuracy as high as 0.1%, a measuring accuracy of 100 ppm, and a range between 0.1 ohm to 1 Gigohm.
Passive Trimming

Involves removal of material from a resistor to increase its resistance. The resistance or voltage parameter is monitored across the component contacts.
Active Trimming

Involves removal of material from a resistor to change a circuit parameter. Also called functional trimming, because the circuit is functioning during the trimming process. Parameters monitored are ACV, DCV, ACI, DCI, PERIOD, FREQUENCY.

Laser Parameter Considerations

Spot Size: Our Nd: YAG laser spot size typically ranges from 25 to 75 microns. The spot size should be wide enough to avoid electrical arcing across a narrow trim. Also the spot size should be narrow enough so that the side rays do not "cook" the resistor, producing a heat affected zone and degrading the resistor's long term stability.

Laser Beam Focus: The laser beam focus is not a very critical factor for thick film trimming applications because the optics have very long depths of focus. Typically, the depth of focus can be +/- 250 microns. For thin film it may be a more critical factor. As the beam goes out of focus in the near and far fields, the resistor drift will increase.

Trim Rate: Faster trimming will result in lower accuracies. It may also mean having to use higher repetition rates to achieve satisfactory material removal.

Nationwide Installation is a service company specializing in turnkey relocation, upgrading and installation of electroplating or finishing equipment.

We help companies which are expanding or consolidating and bringing in chrome or zinc plating rather than outsourcing to control their products and production requirements. Companies who are downsizing and combining operations or companies upgrading their existing facilities which maybe have not been maintained satisfactory, can also benefit from the services offered by Nationwide Installation Corporation.

Relocating Your Metal Finishing Operation

Black & Decker Corportaion of Lake Forest, California decided to combine two of their operations into one in order to keep operation cost competitive with world markets.

Black & Decker (BHII) would close its Kwikset operation in Waynesboro, Georgia and combine it with the Price Pfister facility in Mexicali, Mexico.

The existing facility in Mexicali needed the electroplating and treatment system relocated, which then required significant changes in plant layout and services.

PLANNING
BHII brought in A-Bite Chemical of Dallas, Texas to help in the new process design layout in order to combine plating of the Kwikset and Price Pfister parts. The existing line had to be reconfigured and additional sulfur free nickel tanks added in order to make the process line compatible for all combined parts.

After the process layout was determined, BHII had many things to consider in order to implement the project.
- Plant reconfiguration and work flow
- Facility additions and changes for the nickel-chrome plating line and waste treatment facility
- Outsourcing of Kwikset parts while equipment is being relocated to the new facility
- Chemical supplies for their Mexicali operation
- Accessing existing equipment for reuse
- Single source general contractor to decontaminate, remove, load and transport 22trunck loads of equipment; unload and complete the reinstallation of the plating operation; including upgrading and procurement of new equipment as a "turnkey" project.

BHII designed a fast track timeline for the relocation of the facility and brought in five contractors to bid the projct utilizing a "point" system as a guide. Then the planning committee voted on the selected contractor.

Nationwide Installation Corporation of Grand Rapids, Michigan was selected as the general contractor to do the following:

KWIKSET: Waynesboro, Georgia
- Decontaminate the nickel-chrome plating and treatment equipment, as well as the floor area.
- Identify and tag all equipment for shipment
- Propertly dismantle the four hoist nickel-chrome plating and 100 GPM flow through waste treatment
- Cordinate loading and trucking to Mexico
- Load 22 trucks and ship to Mexicali, Mexico
- Provide documentation and customs support in coordination with BHII broker

PRICE PFISTER: Mexicali, Mexico
- Procure and ship additional new equipment such as rectifiers, tanks, PVC exhaust equipment, temperature controls, low steam pressure boiler, filters, etc.
- Provide new updated hoist and tank process control system with scheduling ability.
- Unload all equipment
- Set, level and align the newly configured plating line, boiler and waste treatment system.
- Instal A/C and D/C electrical for the equipment from Price Pfister service panels.
- Install low pressure steam boiler system, steam, condensate, water, drain overflow, air agitation and push air piping.
- Install PCV scrubber, fan and exhaust systems.
- Test operate all equipment performing both dry and wet test runs, prior to sign off by Price Pfister
- Test balance exhaust system
- Provide training and operation of the plating and treatment system.

PROJECT SUCCESS
The project was successfully completed early, including chemistry balancing, mechanical, electrical, plating and treatment equipment training.

- Multiple work crews performing the installation of the plating and treatment system independently, at the same time
